JOHOR BAHRU: 51 kilogrammes (kg) of cocaine worth RM10.3 million were found hidden inside the air conditioning compressor during an inspection at the Customs Inspection Bay in Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP), Iskandar Puteri, by the Johor Customs Department, breaking up a significant drug trafficking syndicate.

Director of Johor Customs (JKDM), Aminul Izmeer Mohd Sohaimi, stated that a team of JKDM customs officers conducted the 2.45 pm inspection following intelligence from the Intelligence Division of the Customs Department.

Aminul added that 2,900 packages of fresh onions were listed as the contents of a container that was reportedly being shipped to Sarawak from China.

Nevertheless, a careful examination showed that the container’s air conditioning compressor was concealing 50 plastic containers containing compressed white powder.

At a news conference held here today, he informed reporters, “We think the syndicate’s strategy is to try and smuggle drugs by hiding the contents inside the aircond compressor of containers.”

The Dangerous Drugs Act of 1952, Section 39B (1) (a), will be used to examine this case. – BERNAMA
