KUALA LUMPUR — The MADANI Government has been urged to defend Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki following his firm track record in combating corruption since 2020.

Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Deputy Speaker Mohd Asna Amin said Azam has demonstrated courage in handling high-profile corruption cases involving influential individuals, reflecting a strong commitment to integrity and the rule of law.

According to him, during Azam’s five years of leadership, the MACC seized approximately RM3.54 billion and forfeited assets worth RM27.87 billion, which were returned to the country.

“The firmness of the MACC under his leadership sends a clear signal that abuse of power will not be compromised, while also increasing accountability among public servants,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

He stressed that continuous efforts to combat corruption are crucial to ensuring that the nation’s administrative system remains transparent and maintains integrity.

“Corruption can damage the structure of national governance.

“Therefore, firm action is necessary to ensure that institutions entrusted with safeguarding public interest continue to function effectively,” he added.

Mohd Asna also claimed that public confidence in the government’s anti-corruption efforts has increased, particularly following actions taken against high-profile cases.

He noted that Azam’s firm leadership has placed the MACC under pressure, but described it as part of the broader struggle to strengthen national governance.

As such, he opined that the government should continue to support the MACC’s leadership to ensure that the anti-corruption agenda is carried out consistently.
