Trump Calls for Immediate Talks to Acquire Greenland, Rules Out Use of Force

DAVOS, Switzerland, Jan 21: U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday urged immediate negotiations for the potential acquisition of Greenland, emphasizing that the United States would not use force in pursuing the northern island.

Speaking to world leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Trump said, “I’m seeking immediate negotiations once again to discuss the acquisition of Greenland by the United States.”

Trump added that the move was driven by strategic interests and that the United States was uniquely capable of securing Greenland. He also dismissed any suggestion that the talks were related to rare earth minerals on the island.

The announcement has reignited global attention on Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, as Trump revisits a concept that has periodically surfaced in U.S. political discussions.
