BANGKOK, Jan 15:  A crane collapsed in Samut Sakhon province, near Bangkok, on Thursday, crushing two vehicles and killing two people, police said. Five others were reported injured in the accident.

The crane, which was part of an elevated highway construction project, fell onto the road below, according to Police Colonel Sitthiporn Kasi, superintendent of the local district police station.

The incident comes just a day after a crane collapse in northeastern Thailand caused a high-speed train derailment in Nakhon Ratchasima province, killing 32 passengers and injuring 66 others. Investigations into both accidents are ongoing.

Authorities have warned that the latest collapse highlights persistent safety risks in Thailand’s construction sector, prompting calls for stricter oversight and enforcement of safety standards on major infrastructure projects.
