JAKARTA, Sept 23 (VoM): Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has reaffirmed his country’s strong support for the two-state solution, declaring that Indonesia would be ready to recognize Israel once the sovereignty and independence of Palestine are achieved.

Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly on Monday, Prabowo praised nations such as France, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Portugal for recognizing Palestine, urging others not to “be left behind in history.”

“Recognition of the State of Palestine is the right step in history. To those who have not acted, we say that history will not stop,” he said.

Prabowo condemned the violence in Gaza, highlighting the devastating humanitarian toll, particularly on women and children. He warned of famine and described the situation as a “humanitarian disaster unfolding before our eyes.”

Reiterating Indonesia’s readiness to play an active role in peace efforts, the president said Jakarta was willing to send a UN peacekeeping force to help end the war.

“We must overcome hatred, fear, and prejudice. We must achieve the peace that humanity longs for. Indonesia is willing to participate in this journey and to prepare a peacekeeping force,” he stressed.

The high-level UN meeting, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, sought to consolidate international support for the two-state solution. According to the UN, delegates are expected to adopt an outcome document mapping a pathway towards a peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Prabowo reiterated that Indonesia’s recognition of Israel would only come after Israel acknowledges Palestine’s sovereignty. “As soon as Israel recognizes the independence and sovereignty of Palestine, Indonesia will immediately recognize the State of Israel and support all security guarantees for Israel,” he said.

He concluded by endorsing the New York Declaration, describing it as a fair roadmap towards lasting peace for both peoples.
