Bangkok: Thailand is accelerating the submission of evidence to the Ottawa Convention mechanism concerning Cambodian landmine activity in Thai territory, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A ministry spokesperson stated that the Thai ambassador in Geneva is working to ensure the evidence is promptly reviewed under the Ottawa Mechanism, which oversees compliance with the Mine Ban Treaty.
The next meeting of the mechanism is scheduled for later this month in August, where Thailand is expected to present its findings regarding Cambodian mine-laying activities along the border.
Officials emphasized the importance of addressing the landmine issue to enhance regional security and prevent civilian casualties, while reaffirming Thailand’s commitment to the international mine ban framework.
