Muizzu, who arrived yesterday, received a warm welcome from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at 9am, followed by the playing of the national anthems of both countries. He subsequently conducted an inspection of the guard of honor, which comprised three officers and 102 members of the First Battalion of the Royal Malay.

In attendance were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Minister of Youth and Sports Hannah Yeo, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul, and Director-General of the Public Service Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz.

The prime minister invited Muizzu to make his inaugural visit to Malaysia following his appointment as president in November 2023. Muizzu subsequently signed the visitors’ book prior to his meeting with Anwar.

The two leaders are anticipated to engage in discussions regarding the advancements in Malaysia-Maldives bilateral relations and to examine additional avenues for cooperation, especially in trade and investment, the halal industry, education, tourism, and youth and sports.

Muizzu and Anwar are set to observe the signing of three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) that pertain to collaboration in the tourism, sports, and health sectors.

The exchange of two Exchange of Notes (EoN) documents was also conducted, pertaining to diplomatic training and the establishment of bilateral consultations between Malaysia and the Maldives.
Tomorrow, Muizzu is set to be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy in Islamic Leadership and Civil Development by the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

The awarding ceremony will be presided over by Tengku Ampuan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, in her capacity as the Head of the IIUM Constitution.

Muizzu will present a lecture titled The Intellectual Renaissance: Unveiling the Scientific and Modern Developments of Islamic Civilization.
