KUCHING: Methamphetamine worth RM1.9 million was found hidden in crates of electrical items by the Customs Department, totaling 60.67 kg.

A team from the Enforcement Division and Narcotics Branch also arrested two men, ages 19 and 22, during the raid on July 4, according to Sarawak Customs director Norizan Yahya.

In the course of a police operation that started on July 1, these two local males were taken into custody together with ten crates that were being kept in a lorry. After preliminary examinations, sixty golden-colored packages bearing the name “Guan Yi Wang” were found, which the speaker of a press conference held here today said were likely to contain substances like crystals.

According to Norizan, the case may be connected to two earlier arrests that occurred in Kuching in March and Miri in June because both cases involved the use of air cargo services from Kuala Lumpur to Kuching and the making of fraudulent reports on customs forms.

“More research is being done to determine the network of the syndicate.

“Considering the substantial weight, we don’t completely rule out the potential of other people being involved. We are hopeful that we can solve this case, as the investigating police are looking into a number of areas, he stated.

The Dangerous Drugs Act of 1952, Section 39B(1)(a), is the legal basis for the investigation into this case.
