PETALING JAYA, Oct 21: A 22-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly driving recklessly and causing a major five-vehicle collision along the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) last Saturday (Oct 18).

A video of the crash, which quickly went viral on social media, shows the suspect’s vehicle losing control and swerving to the right before triggering a chain reaction involving multiple vehicles.

Petaling Jaya district police chief Asst Comm Shamsudin Mamat said the accident occurred around 5.17pm when the suspect lost control of his car.

“A lorry coming from behind was unable to avoid the collision and crashed into several other vehicles that were slowing down at the scene,” ACP Shamsudin said in a statement on Tuesday.

The incident involved two lorries and three cars. No fatalities were reported, but several vehicles sustained serious damage.

Following the crash, the 22-year-old driver was detained by police. Preliminary checks revealed he had no prior criminal record.

The case is being investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.

ACP Shamsudin reminded motorists to always obey traffic rules and warned that stern action will be taken against those who endanger others on the road.

“We will not compromise with individuals who drive dangerously. Strict enforcement will continue to ensure the safety of all road users,” he added.
